GIFT: Naruto: First Date

Summary: Shadow (OC) and her main squeeze have their first date

First Date

Back during the days being in the ANBU black ops, Shadow was a different person than she was now. Since the ending of the Fourth Shinobi war, she began to look at life differently. She was happy to have her husband at her side. They had been in the ANBU together since they were young and it was through her older brother, Kakashi she even got the chance to meet her husband, Yamato. Of course she knew him as Tenzo but always referred to him as ‘Yamato’.

It had been years since they first met and she could still remember it vividly as if it was yesterday their first date. It had been at Christmas time, just after the destruction of the village when Pein attacked and after Madara Uchiha declared the beginnings of the Fourth Great Shinobi War on all five nations. The air was crisp with a small blanket of fresh fallen snow over land. Everyone knew the snow wouldn’t last long as it was often to warm for the snow too stay, but many people would take advantage of the situation. Shadow closed her eyes, thinking back to that day…

Shadow was taking some time off from her ANBU duties and was currently traveling around the bare ground of the destroyed village, trying to figure out what to do. Her feet crunched into the snow. She could feel the chilled air slap her skin on her face and could see her breath. She hated to see the village in shambles but at least lives were saved thanks to Pein.

“Shadow!” called a voice from behind her.

The woman turned to see her friend running up beside her. “Oh, Yamato. Hello,” she greeted with a smile. “What brings you around?”

“Well I was wondering with today being Christmas Eve, would you like to accompany me to the annual Christmas dinner?”

“Me?” she blinked. “You want me to go with you?! Wouldn’t that be like…”

“A date, yes,” he finished for her. “I’ve been thinking about asking you out for awhile now.” He gave her a sheepish look and brought his hand up to the back of his head. “But could never find the time and then I was assigned to your brother’s team.”

“Yeah, we don’t get to see each other much do we?” she asked. “I’m surprised you want to ask me now of all times.”

“Well it is Christmas and it’s calm before the storm. War could start at any time.”

Shadow then smiled. “I would love to be your date for dinner.”

He smiled and offered his arm to her. “Shall we go then? They are holding it up on the Hokage Mountain. Those who wish to participate are to head there now.”

Linking her arm with his, the two left the area and began to make their way to the mountain. When they arrived, there was a tree all decorated up. It was said the academy students and Genins did it since all the Chunins and Jonins were very busy trying to make headway to the damaged village.

“That’s a gorgeous tree,” Shadow commented.

“Previous years were better though.”

“Nonsense,” she protested. “Knowing the Genins and academy students put their energy into the tree, I think it’s the best one. It shows that moral isn’t lost.”

He chuckled. “I suppose not, not with Naruto around to brighten everyone’s mood.”

The two made their way to a table already set up nearby the tree. On the table there was a menu waiting. The two scanned and decided what they wanted. Someone came over and took their order and gave them some drinks. Unlike previous years, this year was being held more outdoors. Luckily it wasn’t too cold for the occasion. Everyone could already feel the temperature warming up, which meant by morning, the snow would be gone.

Shadow looked up into the sky when they were far enough away and watched the twinkling stars. “Sometimes I wish I never joined ANBU but other times I’m glad,” she said finally.

“I know what you mean,” he admitted. “And being here with a beautiful woman makes me wish the same thing.”

Shadow jerked, surprised. This wasn’t like him at all. “Yamato?”

“Shadow…” he paused, before taking both her hands. “Since the day we met all those years ago after the nine tails attack, I thought you were beautiful then. It took me awhile to learn you were Kakashi’s sister but once finding out you two were related, I could see the resemblance.

She smiled. “Kakashi has always been protected of me since mother’s passing and even more so since father killed himself. You know he doesn’t like to talk about it.”

“No, he doesn’t.” Yamato looked into her beautiful eyes. “Shadow, what I was trying to say is that you’re someone I like being around. I probably wouldn’t be the man I am today if not for you. Yes, in ANBU we were taught not to have feelings, but I have found myself, having feelings for you.”

She gasped, surprised by his words. “What are you saying?”

“What I’m saying is, I would like to make this date as an official date and perhaps transform the date into something more.” He continued to hold her hands, softly rubbing his thumbs over her knuckles.

Shadow was a loss for words. She was not expecting this. The two were quiet while she went over her thoughts and feelings, while he waited patiently for her. She thought to all the times they had been together during off and on missions and how much fun she actually would have when she was around him.

Moments went by and Yamato began to feel himself getting on edge. With her being so quiet, it was making him nervous. Perhaps she didn’t want a relationship with him.

“Yes.” Her voice was quiet as she interrupted his thoughts.

“What? What did you say?” he asked.

“I said, yes,” she repeated. “I would like to see where this will go.”

He smiled as he stood. Going around the table, he grasped her hands again and forced her to stand. “There is one thing I would like to do to seal the deal.”

“What’s that?” she asked.

“Close your eyes.”

Again surprised by his words, she did as requested, trusting him completely. For a few moments she wondered what he was going to do but then she got her answer and it caused her to gasp.

He had leaned down, lightly pressing his lips to hers in a tender, butterfly kiss. Her heart leapt into her throat as she fel his lips for the first time. She immediately brought her arms up to wrap around his arms, as she did her best to return the kiss.

Shadow’s thoughts were interrupted when a sudden pair of arms wrapped around her waist. “What are you thinking about?” a male voice asked.

She smiled, recognizing the familiar voice. She leaned into his body. “Our first date when you gave me our first kiss. That was truly a magical night.”

“That it was and it was on this day too.” He kissed her temple as the two looked up into the stars, blessed with the happiness they now shared. The war was over and many lives were lost but it only made their village stronger.
